DARRELL ALLEN

I’m a visual journalism leader focused on how design, data, and storytelling strengthen the clarity and impact of news.

As Director of Global Design & Presentation at The Associated Press, I lead multidisciplinary teams responsible for editorial design, motion graphics, data visualization, video, and interactive storytelling supporting one of the world’s largest news organizations. Our work helps audiences understand complex stories across breaking news, investigations, elections, and enterprise reporting distributed to media partners and digital audiences around the world.

My role sits at the intersection of editorial leadership, creative strategy, and newsroom innovation. I work closely with editors, reporters, product leaders, and developers to ensure visuals play a central role in how journalism is reported and experienced across digital, broadcast, and emerging platforms.

Throughout my career, I’ve focused on building strong creative teams, developing scalable visual storytelling systems, and integrating data and design into the reporting process. The work has been recognized with honors including the Pulitzer Prize Finalist distinction, Edward R. Murrow Awards, National Headliner Awards, Webbys, and the Overseas Press Club Award.

I’m particularly interested in how evolving technology, audience insights, and new storytelling formats can help news organizations reach people in more meaningful ways while maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity.

Interested in conversations about visual journalism, newsroom innovation, and the future of storytelling in digital media.
